The Redemption City Story

It all started when…

Pastor Mike Bartlett was attending church planting residency at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis. While training under Pastor John Piper and the leadership at Bethlehem, Mike and his wife, Jamie, were convicted that God was calling them to give their lives to sharing the story of Jesus in Grand Rapids, Michigan through church planting.

Pastor Mike & Jamie moved their family to Grand Rapids in July 2011, where they spent a year preparing to plant a church in the heart of the city. Through a series of connections and partnerships with other Grand Rapids-area churches and national church planting networks, Redemption City Church was prepared to launch.

In Septebmer 2012, Redemption City Church officially began. What started in an old space at Crossroads Bible Church on the west side, 60 people joined and wanted to be part of a movement in the city—specifically the Eastown neighborhood. So, a few months after launching, in January 2013, Redemption City Church moved to the campus of Aquinas College, where it still meets today, and is seeking to help people find their place in the story by connect the gospel to people, people to community, and community to the mission of Jesus.
